Prebys Foundation launches $2M nonprofit initiative as sector faces headwinds

The LEAD San Diego Visionary Award winners LEAD is one of the members of the first BRIDGE Cohort Back row Jean Guerrero left Steve and Mia Roseberry Karen S Haynes Front row Paul Hering Silvia Mah Felena Hanson Bishop Cornelius Bowser Photo by Melissa Jacobs LEAD San Diego The Prebys Foundation is launching a million initiative to promotion nonprofit and civic leaders working together to strengthen their organizations and communities The plan called BRIDGE for Building Resilient Inclusive and Dynamic Grassroot Ecosystems is a response to the current landscape in which nonprofits are confronting a host of challenging factors Those include shifting federal policies delayed funding budget cuts and rising costs To help San Diego nonprofits adapt BRIDGE will invest in eight public organizations chosen for their strong leadership diverse focus and the people they serve including urban rural and tribal communities The goal is for them to help other nonprofits and civic groups build skills strengthen their leadership and operations and stay connected through training wellness practices advocacy and shared learning In addition the hope is to grow the system over time The first BRIDGE Cohort includes Chicano Federation cultivates opportunities and advocates for equity in San Diego County while serving more than people annually Fieldstone Leadership Infrastructure San Diego builds and sustains nonprofit leaders personal and professional capabilities through rise programs Hispanas Organized for Political Equality HOPE empowers Latinas to achieve political and economic parity through leadership training advocacy and mentoring LEAD San Diego the region s sole nonprofit dedicated to emerging civically engaged leaders through guidance engagement and mobilization RISE San Diego advances urban leadership through dialogue-based civic engagement nonprofit partnerships and direct training and encouragement Amplified Impact Partners formerly San Diego Social Venture Partners offers pro bono consulting services to nonprofits in need of strategic and operational sponsorship The Nonprofit Institute housed at USD s School of Leadership and Training Sciences it offers research evaluation leadership advance to the nonprofit sector Walking Shield Native-managed since dedicated to improving American Indian families quality of life through healthcare development housing and economic maturation The Prebys Foundation has begun working with district partners to strengthen the region s nonprofit and civic infrastructure What began in fall as a collaborative planning effort has become BRIDGE and funding partners include Catalyst of San Diego Imperial Counties Nonprofits are the backbone of San Diego s civic and social infrastructure announced Grant Oliphant CEO of the Prebys Foundation Through BRIDGE we are standing with them in this moment of disruption to ensure they not only survive but emerge stronger more connected and more impactful than ever
